What does "Going Solar" Mean to You?

Is it just me or does it feel like the popularity of solar energy has exploded in the last few months? It seems as if every dinner party, little league game or work function has two or three side conversations about solar panel efficiency going at the same time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm obviously a huge fan of solar power and I'm absolutely thrilled to see this phenomenon happening but seeing so many people interested in solar does beg the question: what's all the current hype about and where is this popularity coming from?

On the surface, it's not too difficult to decipher. Solar is an amazing investment, allows you and your family to become energy independent, adds value to a home, help save lots of money, have piece of mind and do something good for the environment all at the same time. Despite the long list of benefits solar can provide for a family, I suspect if I had to choose one that topped every consumer's list, it would likely be the fact that it's an incredible investment.

I've spoken before about how a solar electric system can provide a rewarding and stable return for a homeowner for decades to come. It's not a secret that homeowners looking to go solar can have a system installed on their roof even for no money down while eliminating their electric bill, being left with modest lease or loan payments much lower than their utility bill.

To me "going solar" means reserving the right for you and your family to live free of having to worry about energy cost increases or paying for your electric bill. Going solar helps reserve your right for peace of mind and the ability to refrain from "renting your electricity" from the utility company. Going solar means taking control of your future and getting rid of uncertainty once and for all. Going solar means saving money. Let's say it all one more time and feel free to repeat after me: going solar means saving money!
