What Happens When Your Whole Block Decides to Go Solar?

Here in Valley Center, San Diego, it's no secret that Cosmic Solar has installed quite a few systems all throughout our town. From Mirar de Valle to Lilac, Fruitvale, Cool Valley, Cole Grade and MacTan. What might be a surprise, however, is that a few streets in Valley Center have as many as five families that have gone with us and installed their solar systems, eliminating their bills and becoming energy independent.

If you look closely in these next two pictures, you can see a large array in the forefront of the picture and a neighbor's array off in the distance. It just so happens, on Saddle Creek Road in Valley Center, three of our neighbors chose us to install their systems. In fact, if you stand just right, you can see all three from the same location. How cool is that?

See the solar array on the neighbor's house?

See the solar array off in the distance through the trees?

Today, we finished the third system on Saddle Creek Drive this summer, helping three of our neighbors totally eliminate their electric bills. It's truly a great feeling to help out our community this way and to help ensure fellow Valley Center residents can produce their own electricity with the available sunlight on their property.

I can't help but wonder, though...
what happens when your block decides to go solar?

I was pondering this during my drive home today from setting up our customer's solar web monitoring and I couldn't help but think about what might happen if every home on the block went solar.

Then it occurred to me...

If every house on the block went solar, with every home generating their own electricity and feeding the excess back into the grid, allowing their meters to spin backward, what you would essentially find is a block that is producing all of the energy they are consuming. In other words, an entire street, a powerhouse electricity plant, existing as a net zero user of electricity. It's a beautiful thing when you really stop to think about it.

As for us here at Cosmic Solar, we'll continue to give out free solar estimates while installing solar systems all over our town, eliminating our neighbors bills one at a time. All in a day's work!
