Shading Analysis 101


Here at Cosmic Solar, we go to great lenghts to ensure we're doing our best to minimize shading for our customer projects. From the location of the array, to the height and the direction of the panels, we take everything into consideration prior to installing our first panel. Though we use a few tools for our analysis, including the Solmetric SunEye and various types of compases, one of our favorite tools, mainly for its simplicity, is the Solar Pathfinder, shown above.


The Solar Pathfinder allows us to catch a glimpse of possible shading over the entire course of a year. By combining the site-specific shading data of the Solar Pathfinder with the published global weather data, we are able to make very accurate shading measurements. Because of this, here at Cosmic Solar we are able to identify any possible shading issues year round in a matter of minutes. More sun means more energy production and a lower or non-existent electricity bill!
